Statue of Liberty Project
This is what happens when your kindergarten teacher assigns a project that must be done in 3d and your mom is a Packaging Engineer for a toy company.
Since this was my first child, it was the first time that I had to help with a project. As you can see from the pictures, I got A LITTLE carried away and it definitely became MY project. I had never made anything like this before and had so much fun doing it. The response it got, made me realize that I had discovered a new hobby...engineering 3d things, using mostly paper/chipboard/corrugated.
A large doll was used for the statue. Her robe is fabric. The crown and base of the torch are made of chipboard and the top of the torch is tissue paper. The tablet is a box with the date of the Declaration of Independence cut out of chipboard and glued on top. Once the entire top section was complete, I spray painted it green. The base is corrugated with vellum in the widnows. There are lights in the base and in the torch. My son and all of his classmates are standing around the sides of the pedestal and his teacher is hanging out in the center window of the crown.
